Mathematical Modeling of Population Data

Working for Dr. Ferguson, I handle data collection of Population cycles for variety of species. We gain the majority of our data through scanning scholarly articles on google scholar. This requires tablating any provided data from the sources of these articles. Sometimes this information is non-available which requires one of two responses.

If there exists usable graphs in the article some data collection is still possible. We use WebPlotDigitizer to calibrate data points from the image of a graph and upload the data to our collective database. Otherwise if no such data is presented, I am required to reach out to the authors of said papers. So far this has allowed me to have a better understanding of collaboratively working with faculty members outside of UH Manoa.

Our current method of managing and storing the data relies on using a google survey form to copy a template into an excel sheet. However, I have been working together with professor Ferguson to develop R packages for better data collection and management. As the research is ongoing I am unable to provide more information on our process or results, but I will update when possible.
